Brooklyn Bridge

NDT Corporation, subcontracted to URS Corporation, conducted cross-hole seismic tomography and cross-hole compression and shear wave measurements of the foundations and soil surrounding the Brooklyn and Manhattan Towers of the Brooklyn Bridge. The objective of these investigations was to provide compression and shear wave velocity information for the soil/overburden materials and the subsurface tower caisson limestone, timber grillage and concrete fill for a “Seismic Assessment and Retrofitting of the Brooklyn Bridge”. Parallel seismic and magnetic gradiometer measurements were also conducted in borings adjacent to piers along the Manhattan approaches to determine the length/ bottom depths of supporting pipe pile foundations.
