NDT Corporation uses a borescope with an eight-meter long, 6mm diameter flexible cable with articulating head to obtain videos and images to evaluate voids. First we locate void conditions using sonic/ultrasonic or GPR measurements, then we drill a hole one inch or less in diameter to the void and insert the video borescope to document void conditions. These visual inspections often determine the cause and consequences of the void. This is particularly the case in accessing post tensioning ducts for voids. A video borescope inspection of post tensioning voiding provides data to document void sizes and severity of strand corrosion. We also use data from video borescope inspection to determine the number and pattern of prestressing in box beams and “I” beams by providing a visual inspection of the end of the beam in the crack between the abutment wall and the beam.
