Evaluation of underground large diameter Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) is conducted using continuous sonic/ultrasonic velocity and resonant frequency (pulse-echo) measurements. Weakened concrete conditions indicative of broken prestressing wires, out of compression, damaged, or deteriorated concrete are identified and the magnitude of these conditions is used to identify potential deficient pipe sections. Areas of pipe thinning from hydrogen sulfide are identified with external sonic/ultrasonic measurements.
