Bridges

Nondestructive and geophysical testing data are used to assess the following bridge conditions:

  • Deck condition and integrity
  • Tendon duct voiding
  • Depth of footings
  • Reinforcing characteristics
  • Thickness of Arches
  • Abutment thickness
  • Soil and bedrock foundation conditions
  • “S” Wave data for seismic retrofit calculations

Sonic/ultrasonic velocity and resonant frequency data from bare and asphalt covered decks are used to assess the integrity of the deck concrete and map areas of delaminated, partial and full deck deterioration. Sonic/ultrasonic pulse echo data are used to determine abutment thickness and length/depth of footings. Radar data are used to identify moisture entrapment associated with cracking and delamination as well as an assessment of the reinforcing spacing and cover. Seismic Refraction Geophysical testing are used to profile bedrock and make general soil type identifications for assessment of foundation conditions for scour ranking of bridges with unknown foundation conditions.
